 本日7月10日（金）に、ジャパンナレッジLibの新コンテンツとして

「岩波 数学辞典 第4版」（岩波書店）を公開いたしました。

 Encyclopedic Dictionary of Mathematics 2nd ed.（MIT Press）として英訳され、世界的にも定評を得た前版を全面大改訂。

フェルマの定理、ポアンカレ予想の解決をはじめとした前版刊行以降の数学の著しい発展を反映しただけでなく、部門構成を見直して応用解析部門を新設するなど、科学の他分野や社会の諸問題にも広がる応用の裾野までもカバーしました。

全数学をコンパクトな１冊として体系的にまとめるため、初版以来採用してきた中項目方式を踏襲し、前版から140余の新項目を加えた515の項目を収録。

付録には、リー代数、位相幾何、三角法、微分法、q 級数、特殊直交多項式、積分変換などの公式を追加し、数表にも新たな情報を付け加えました。

数学を専攻する学生、研究者だけでなく、関係諸分野に携わる方にも必携の辞典です。

項目見出しになっている語は、英・仏・独 の対応語が書かれているので、論文執筆、翻訳などの際に定訳を知ることができます。

 This email informs you that " Iwamami Dictionary of Mathematics 4th edition" (Iwanami Shoten) has been added as a JapanKnowledge Lib content on July 10th,2020.

Translated into English as the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Mathematics 2nd ed. (MIT Press), this edition represents a thoroughgoing overhaul of the previous edition, firmly established as a world-level dictionary.

Not only have the stunning advances in mathematics since the publication of the previous edition, including the solutions to Fermat’s theorem and the Poincaré conjecture, been reflected in this edition, the section structure has been renewed and the coverage of applied mathematics in the dictionary has been expanded to other scientific fields and various social issues by, for example, creating a new section on applied analysis.

To systematically summarize the whole of mathematics in one compact dictionary, this edition adheres to the subheading method employed from the first edition, adding more than 140 new entries to the previous edition to bring the total number of subheadings to 515.

Formulae associated with topics such as Lie algebra, topology, trigonometry, differentiation, q-series, special orthogonal polynomial, and integral transform have been added to the appendices along with new information in the numerical tables.

This dictionary is an indispensable companion not only for researchers and students majoring in mathematics but for everyone working in related fields.

 

Where formulae are displayed, the JapanKnowledge edition has adopted TeX to enable use of the online dictionary for everyday study and in writing papers and reports.

The English, French and German terms corresponding to each headword are shown, making it possible to know the definitive term for translation when writing papers or making translations.

 All the appendices in the paper edition are available for browsing.

Features have been created in the main text and appendices for quick access to information being sought by inserting links for reference entries and in cases where definitions and explanations of technical terms are given in other entries.
